WEBVTT

00:00.020 --> 00:07.000
<b>Mama! We'll be together forever.

That's right, but Mama's getting old.

Don't say that. I know. Even if you go up to the sky,
 I'll sacrifice the islanders and bring you back to life!
 I saw it in an anime. There's nothing you can't do
as long as you have faith.
That's what you taught me, Mama!</b>

00:00.020 --> 00:07.000
<b>Oh, my. You've never stopped dreaming, have you?
 But that's what makes little boys so cute.
 I'm sure you can do it. Mama believes in you.</b>

00:00.020 --> 00:07.000
<b>The Beautiful Love of a Parent and Child</b>

00:07.390 --> 00:12.130
People with brains who offer their
opinions are the enemy of peace.

00:12.360 --> 00:17.850
That's why I tried to get the Moris to leave
the island, but they just won't do it.

00:17.850 --> 00:20.050
It's the father.

00:20.050 --> 00:24.450
He's a little guy who seems carefree,
but he's pretty sharp.

00:24.450 --> 00:25.390
That's right.

00:25.640 --> 00:30.520
We've painted the Moris' son as someone
constantly faking suicide attempts,

00:30.520 --> 00:33.900
but the Kiriharas' father
might've realized it's not true.

00:34.230 --> 00:36.280
Well, we have various methods at our disposal.

00:36.500 --> 00:40.710
The other islanders will
believe anything we say.

00:40.710 --> 00:42.470
We can lie to them as much as we need.

00:44.640 --> 00:47.080
What'd you learn? Tell me.

00:50.090 --> 00:51.460
In other words...

00:56.080 --> 01:00.470
The island's royal family does
whatever it takes to stay in power.

01:00.470 --> 01:04.350
They make the islanders dependent on
them and rob them of their judgment.

01:04.630 --> 01:08.480
That family are pros at cleverly manipulating
people's minds and controlling them.

01:08.480 --> 01:12.730
On top of a supernatural ritual
that engenders a sense of unity,

01:09.000 --> 01:10.000
<b>Waaah</b>

01:10.500 --> 01:10.980
<b>Waaah</b>

01:12.730 --> 01:16.490
<b>Bounce Bounce Bounce</b>

01:12.730 --> 01:16.490
<b>Bounce Bounce Bounce</b>

01:12.730 --> 01:17.600
instilling an even greater sense of
unity with an "us versus them" story

01:17.600 --> 01:18.910
is particularly clever.

01:19.310 --> 01:24.370
Those they deem useless or impudent are
driven to desperation and disposed of.

01:24.640 --> 01:26.830
They don't care if they die.

01:27.130 --> 01:30.480
Worst of all are the boss lady,
her Oedipus complex puppet,

01:30.480 --> 01:32.420
and that strong-willed walking minefield.

01:32.650 --> 01:34.920
<i>My island's even shadier than I thought.</i>

01:34.920 --> 01:37.380
Simply put, they're a crazy bunch.

01:37.380 --> 01:40.270
What do they think other people are?

01:40.810 --> 01:42.760
Mori-kun's one of their victims.

01:44.880 --> 01:48.890
I'd bet this island has
produced countless victims.

01:48.890 --> 01:52.820
They've made the merfolk bigger.

01:49.920 --> 01:50.920
<b>Swell</b>

01:50.920 --> 01:51.920
<b>Swell swell</b>

01:51.920 --> 01:52.820
<b>Swell swell swell</b>

01:53.120 --> 01:56.070
I knew there were surprisingly
few spirits on the island.

01:56.070 --> 01:59.860
When we arrived at the harbor,
they even stared at us.

02:00.100 --> 02:03.350
Most of them probably get
swallowed up by the merfolk.

02:03.350 --> 02:04.120
In other words,

02:04.120 --> 02:07.250
<b>Where bodies wash up</b>

02:04.470 --> 02:07.250
this place has always attracted spirits.

02:07.250 --> 02:10.960
The spirits that end up
there form a single blob.

02:11.250 --> 02:14.800
It's a pretty standard type
of ghost in ghost stories.

02:13.560 --> 02:14.800
<b>Very little sense of self</b>

02:15.130 --> 02:19.220
It has a propensity to attract spirits
with strong negative emotions.

02:19.510 --> 02:23.710
It's a ball of regret, so it craves company.

02:21.990 --> 02:23.740
<b>So lonely</b>

02:21.990 --> 02:23.740
<b>Any friends around?</b>

02:21.990 --> 02:23.740
<b>Ball of regret</b>

02:24.330 --> 02:29.530
It absorbs every spirit it can and
eventually begins luring in the living.

02:30.120 --> 02:32.870
Those in a weakened state
are especially susceptible.

02:30.250 --> 02:33.250
<b>I can't be satisfied</b>

02:30.250 --> 02:33.250
<b>Anyone will do,
please be my friend</b>

02:30.250 --> 02:33.250
<b>Growing negativity</b>

02:33.950 --> 02:38.170
That produces haunted spots where
accidents frequently occur

02:36.500 --> 02:40.860
<b>Sad people who exist only to become victims at the start of movies</b>

02:38.170 --> 02:40.860
or places that bring about death.

02:41.250 --> 02:45.120
And the most important part in all of this is...

02:45.470 --> 02:50.040
What did the royal family do to Mori-kun
to drive him to desperation?

04:20.520 --> 04:25.530
<b>Episode 10
"True Worth"</b>

04:22.000 --> 04:26.030
We should go check on him ASAP.

04:26.030 --> 04:31.560
He needs a doctor, but the merfolk
could lure him into the ocean first.

04:31.890 --> 04:35.400
The barrier between his mind and
the merfolk isn't clear anymore.

04:35.400 --> 04:36.400
In fact...

04:36.800 --> 04:40.690
That's probably why he was hanging out in
a place with a view of the sea yesterday.

04:41.430 --> 04:44.040
Should we mind our own business?

04:44.040 --> 04:46.200
Honestly, I don't know.

04:46.970 --> 04:53.080
But Yae-chan, I know you'll regret not doing
anything, even if there's nothing you can do.

04:53.080 --> 04:56.790
<b>Essay Contest
 Kirihara Yaeko</b>

04:53.460 --> 04:56.790
Call it being a busybody or
being self-serving. I can't deny that.

04:57.080 --> 04:59.070
But at the very least,

04:59.070 --> 05:02.580
I've seen too many people who die
without anyone noticing,

05:02.580 --> 05:04.420
and others who feel regret
because they didn't notice.

05:07.000 --> 05:08.620
I'm going.

05:08.620 --> 05:09.300
Yae-chan!

05:09.610 --> 05:11.350
Take someone with you.

05:11.880 --> 05:15.310
It can be just Magi, but if
you don't mind, take me, too.

05:17.070 --> 05:20.570
Better to go with someone who
doesn't know the island's rules.

05:20.570 --> 05:21.980
They just have to be present.

05:24.870 --> 05:28.850
I'm going to continue investigating
the merfolk like I originally planned.

05:28.850 --> 05:31.260
You all know what I look like.

05:29.090 --> 05:34.310
<b>The Face of Death</b>

05:31.260 --> 05:34.230
I'm not suited to dropping in on
someone and getting them to open up.

05:35.210 --> 05:37.250
Let us know if anything happens.

05:37.550 --> 05:39.770
Do you understand what's going on?

05:39.770 --> 05:42.000
Oedipus complexes are gross.

05:42.750 --> 05:44.460
Honestly, good enough.

05:54.650 --> 05:56.130
There he is! Mori-kun!

05:56.950 --> 05:58.390
Wait! Don't run away!

06:09.440 --> 06:10.820
Wh-What's going on?

06:11.090 --> 06:13.350
<b>Eh heh heh</b>

06:13.010 --> 06:19.600
Um, I wasn't sure how to start,
so I thought I'd pull you close.

06:19.600 --> 06:20.960
Can we talk?

06:20.960 --> 06:23.630
It'd be scarier if we didn't.

06:24.510 --> 06:28.260
Sorry to be so frank, but did
Yui-chan do something to you?

06:29.560 --> 06:32.270
Um, what makes you think that?

06:32.270 --> 06:35.010
Uh, a woman's intuition?

06:35.240 --> 06:38.470
These people don't know the island's rules.

06:38.470 --> 06:40.770
That's the reason I realized it.

06:40.770 --> 06:42.320
This island is weird.

06:43.390 --> 06:48.130
I thought you might want to
talk to people who think that.

06:48.130 --> 06:49.070
What do you think?

06:53.240 --> 06:56.080
I moved here six years ago.

06:56.600 --> 07:07.090
<b>Chatter chatter chatter chatter</b>

06:56.750 --> 07:00.020
The students on the island
took the boat every morning.

07:00.020 --> 07:02.460
Everyone was considerate and kind.

07:02.460 --> 07:04.250
You were popular!

07:04.250 --> 07:07.090
People said a boy who looked
like a TV character had arrived.

07:07.410 --> 07:09.590
This cosplay would look great on you.

07:09.590 --> 07:10.790
You're right.

07:10.790 --> 07:12.840
I felt pretty good about it.

07:13.270 --> 07:17.260
That's when the island's princess asked me out.

07:17.260 --> 07:22.270
<b></b>Top Chat
 What's up, guys?
Dokumayu Acherontia here!
Today we're gonna play some Boogie Crush!

07:17.600 --> 07:21.170
I turned her down simply
because she wasn't my type.

07:21.170 --> 07:25.270
Around the same time, my father
had his incident at the factory.

07:25.800 --> 07:27.750
Mori-kun is cute.

07:27.750 --> 07:29.280
He's so nice, too.

07:29.280 --> 07:30.610
Yeah.

07:30.960 --> 07:33.600
But he's too handsome.

07:33.600 --> 07:36.170
I'd be worried about him cheating.

07:36.170 --> 07:41.250
I recently saw a video on the qualities of
cheaters, and it described him to a tee.

07:41.250 --> 07:42.250
What?

07:42.250 --> 07:44.770
He's always surrounded by girls.

07:44.770 --> 07:47.910
There's no way he's not
fooling around with them.

07:47.910 --> 07:52.580
We tend to assume beautiful people
are beautiful on the inside, too.

07:52.580 --> 07:54.270
Oh, I don't have any proof.

07:54.270 --> 07:56.260
I'm just speaking hypothetically.

07:56.570 --> 08:00.270
Mori-kun's close with
Hayashi-kun, don't you think?

08:00.270 --> 08:01.450
A little <i>too</i> close, right?

08:01.450 --> 08:02.230
What?

08:02.500 --> 08:10.230
<b>Tee-hee</b>

08:03.290 --> 08:06.060
They're both pretty, so maybe
they really are like that.

08:06.060 --> 08:07.970
Don't you kind of hope they are?

08:07.970 --> 08:10.230
It makes me want to root for them.

08:10.520 --> 08:14.240
Mori-kun made a move on me once.

08:14.240 --> 08:16.450
I rejected him, of course.

08:16.450 --> 08:20.200
But since he's normally so nice,
I was a little surprised.

08:20.470 --> 08:26.120
Maybe Mori-kun's like that because
he wants to get close to otaku girls.

08:26.120 --> 08:30.670
All the girls are obsessed with him
because he's like a fictional character.

08:30.820 --> 08:34.070
<b>Blah</b>

08:30.960 --> 08:34.380
True. He definitely presents himself that way.

08:34.190 --> 08:36.950
<b>Blah blah</b>

08:34.380 --> 08:37.200
There's no way it's not on purpose.

08:42.360 --> 08:43.910
Don't talk to us again.

08:43.910 --> 08:45.360
Stay away from Yui-chan.

08:45.360 --> 08:47.440
You should flirt with boys more!

08:47.440 --> 08:48.920
What? You don't want to?

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Sorry, Mori. I don't like how the girls jeer at us
 when we hang out, so don't talk to me again.</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Stay away from
Yui-chan!</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>People fuss over you
 because you're beautiful.
 You should just enjoy it.</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>It can't be helped since
 you've got a handsome face.</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Do you like boys?</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Do you like girls?</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>You worry about it too much.</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>What? You don't want to?
 Isn't that homophobic?</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Cute, cute, cute, cute!</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>Flirt with boys more!</b>

08:48.120 --> 08:51.280
<b>I heard he's a cheater.</b>

08:48.920 --> 08:51.280
Isn't that homophobic?

08:51.280 --> 08:56.830
The rumors spread among the islanders
eventually became the "truth"

08:56.830 --> 08:59.390
and spread among the other students.

08:59.710 --> 09:03.950
The more I denied them,
the more "true" the rumors became.

09:05.070 --> 09:06.730
Samejima Yui.

09:09.330 --> 09:12.080
I was certain she'd started the rumors,

09:12.080 --> 09:15.950
but no one remembers where rumors
come from on this island.

09:17.530 --> 09:21.650
I never cheated on anyone.
I wasn't even dating anyone.

09:21.650 --> 09:23.440
I never discriminated against anyone either.

09:23.440 --> 09:26.020
I wasn't trying to deny anyone's preferences.

09:26.020 --> 09:30.690
But every day, I was forced to
recognize that alternate reality.

09:31.280 --> 09:34.950
Maybe I was wrong for not
conforming with their rumors.

09:35.690 --> 09:40.120
Casually making baseless suggestions
to incite the public

09:40.120 --> 09:43.600
and drive a person to desperation...

09:43.600 --> 09:47.210
It's a method she understands well.

09:47.530 --> 09:50.690
Mori-kun, I'm attending a college in Tokyo.

09:50.690 --> 09:53.440
Let me know if you find any
more interesting VTubers.

09:53.440 --> 09:55.510
I'm going to check out the Tokyo Game Show.

09:55.510 --> 09:58.070
Really? Wow.

09:58.390 --> 10:04.410
<i>My one kind friend with common interests who
would rather talk about games than the rumors...</i>

10:06.200 --> 10:07.780
<i>Don't leave me behind.</i>

10:07.780 --> 10:10.890
<i>Everyone else's version of
"reality" will become the same.</i>

10:11.670 --> 10:13.820
<i>Who am I, anyway?</i>

10:16.680 --> 10:18.540
<i>This isn't even a big deal.</i>

10:18.540 --> 10:21.990
<i>I'm weak. I'm sorry.</i>

10:21.990 --> 10:24.280
<i>Nobody believes me.</i>

10:24.280 --> 10:26.880
Everyone goes through hard times.

10:24.280 --> 10:35.570
<b>I want to die</b>

10:26.880 --> 10:28.710
You're handsome. You're already winning.

10:28.710 --> 10:30.430
Turn it into a joke.

10:30.430 --> 10:31.830
You're so unreliable.

10:31.830 --> 10:34.520
I'd find a way to do my best to live.

10:34.520 --> 10:37.170
I don't understand outsiders.

10:37.170 --> 10:39.100
Young people are so sensitive.

10:39.100 --> 10:40.790
Why do you think that?

10:40.790 --> 10:42.310
<i>I want to die.</i>

10:42.310 --> 10:44.300
<i>I know I shouldn't think that, but...</i>

10:44.610 --> 10:49.180
Man. You're not even allowed to
<i>think</i> that on this island?

10:49.810 --> 10:53.940
In that case, I'd be a total failure,
since I constantly want to die.

10:57.790 --> 11:03.130
People say whatever they want without
realizing they're killing people.

11:02.010 --> 11:05.640
<b>Scratch scratch</b>

11:03.130 --> 11:06.380
I've probably said something like that, too.

11:06.380 --> 11:11.090
Meanwhile, sometimes people want
to die because they want to live.

11:11.090 --> 11:13.960
This world is oppekepe, kid.

11:13.960 --> 11:15.130
You're doing good.

11:17.050 --> 11:19.260
I had no idea.

11:19.910 --> 11:21.300
I thought so.

11:21.300 --> 11:23.760
So it was true.

11:24.570 --> 11:26.470
You sure are popular, Mori-kun.

11:26.890 --> 11:31.360
Yeah. I appreciate it since I'm new here.

11:32.390 --> 11:34.400
I didn't see myself as involved.

11:35.510 --> 11:39.790
I failed to notice because
my family are old-timers.

11:41.150 --> 11:42.770
I'm sorry, Mori-kun.

11:48.400 --> 11:49.450
Thanks.

11:50.050 --> 11:52.640
By the way, who is this guy?

11:52.640 --> 11:54.230
R-Right. Of course.

11:54.810 --> 11:56.210
Nice to meet you!

11:59.160 --> 12:02.400
Merfolk legend, merfolk legend...

12:02.400 --> 12:04.720
I wonder if we've got anything on it.

12:04.720 --> 12:10.530
We chuck all our ancestors' stuff in
here, so I don't know what's what.

12:10.530 --> 12:12.730
Grandpa, do you know anything?

12:13.000 --> 12:16.440
We've got my father's notes.

12:16.440 --> 12:19.430
That's in here?

12:20.190 --> 12:23.470
Let's see. Grandpa's father would've been...

12:23.470 --> 12:25.870
Born in the Meiji era? Wow.

12:27.680 --> 12:31.290
My father wrote everything down.

12:31.290 --> 12:34.910
Like Yaeko, he was good at writing.

12:34.910 --> 12:36.680
Bought a lot of books, too.

12:36.680 --> 12:40.600
Wow, this is a first edition of
<i>The Restaurant of Many Orders</i>.

12:40.600 --> 12:43.020
This is a wartime newspaper.

12:43.020 --> 12:45.050
There's an article on a German speech.

12:45.340 --> 12:49.300
This is why private storehouses
mustn't be underestimated.

12:49.300 --> 12:53.480
<b>Merfolk Island</b>

12:49.720 --> 12:53.480
We found some kind of souvenir picture book.

12:54.270 --> 12:56.560
We've got everything in here.

12:57.390 --> 12:59.770
That's from when I was little.

12:59.770 --> 13:01.730
You can have it, sensei.

13:02.110 --> 13:03.320
Are you sure?

13:03.320 --> 13:04.840
It's fine.

13:04.840 --> 13:06.860
You teach Yaeko, right?

13:08.450 --> 13:11.690
Hey, I found my rucksack.

13:11.690 --> 13:14.950
Maybe I'll give it to Sato-san as a souvenir.

13:16.520 --> 13:17.830
He doesn't need that.

13:17.830 --> 13:20.750
You really like that guy, huh?

13:20.750 --> 13:23.630
You gotta stop pestering young people.

13:23.630 --> 13:28.200
And that's not Sato-san. His name's Mogura-san.

13:28.200 --> 13:30.840
Mogura and the cat professor, huh?

13:31.870 --> 13:36.440
Actually, Mogura-san's backpack
looks just like that.

13:36.440 --> 13:38.520
Is he into that sort of thing?

13:44.480 --> 13:47.070
May I read this?

13:47.070 --> 13:48.860
Go ahead.

13:52.150 --> 13:53.870
Mori-kun, are you okay?

13:53.870 --> 13:55.720
You don't have to strain yourself.

13:55.720 --> 13:56.370
Yeah.

13:56.680 --> 14:04.230
Strangely, having people who understand
suddenly cleared the fog in my head.

14:05.790 --> 14:08.800
My parents are helping with the festival.

14:08.800 --> 14:11.010
I should help, too.

14:12.910 --> 14:15.270
Mori-kun, you're feeling better?

14:16.440 --> 14:17.650
That's great.

14:17.650 --> 14:19.520
We were all worried about you.

14:40.770 --> 14:42.250
<b>Shriek Shriek Shriek Shriek</b>

14:57.360 --> 14:58.100
Mori-kun!

14:58.100 --> 14:59.230
What's wrong?

15:02.810 --> 15:04.280
It's the Moris' kid!

15:04.280 --> 15:05.280
Stop!

15:05.280 --> 15:06.800
Calm down!

15:06.800 --> 15:09.530
No! Don't be hasty!

15:09.820 --> 15:12.030
<i>Something's pulling me?</i>

15:13.590 --> 15:15.280
<i>Well, I guess this is fine.</i>

15:15.280 --> 15:17.450
<i>Someone understood me in the end.</i>

15:17.450 --> 15:22.000
<i>It'd be less trouble for
everyone if I just went away.</i>

15:25.640 --> 15:26.670
Magi!

15:25.640 --> 15:26.670
Magi-kun!

15:30.070 --> 15:33.130
<i>Oh, no. I didn't consider the
difference in our weight.</i>

15:35.140 --> 15:40.140
<i>Before going to sleep last night, I thought
about who I'd be 20 years from now,</i>

15:40.440 --> 15:43.630
<i>but I might not be around 20 years from now.</i>

15:48.670 --> 15:50.550
<b>Wub-wub-wub</b>

15:50.670 --> 15:52.990
<b>Skreeeee</b>

15:56.090 --> 16:00.620
<b>In Life</b>

15:56.090 --> 16:00.620
<b>Maggie-kun
 loves apples!</b>

15:56.320 --> 16:02.090
<i>Both in life and in the present,
safety is important to Maggie-kun.</i>

16:02.410 --> 16:06.770
<i>He has no interest in winning,
being number one, or thrills.</i>

16:07.090 --> 16:13.240
<i>Currently, the only thing Maggie-kun
cares about is having a good host.</i>

16:13.830 --> 16:15.720
<i>I feel like eating apples.</i>

16:15.720 --> 16:18.470
<b>Grawr
 Grawr</b>

16:15.990 --> 16:22.390
<i>Meanwhile, as a spirit, Maggie possesses
greater abilities than Nabeshima and Ikebukuro.</i>

16:22.390 --> 16:26.900
<i>The ability to affect physical
objects is a considerable talent.</i>

16:26.900 --> 16:31.940
<i>However, it does not occur to a coward
to use such an ability to attack,</i>

16:28.000 --> 16:33.780
<b>Competitions like entrance exams
also give his host stomachaches</b>

16:31.940 --> 16:37.400
<i>so its true worth is only activated
when his safety is threatened.</i>

16:51.270 --> 16:52.090
<b>Limit Reached</b>

16:55.250 --> 16:56.550
They floated for a second.

16:56.550 --> 16:58.290
They must've caught a sudden updraft.

16:58.290 --> 16:59.470
Are you okay?

17:12.680 --> 17:14.690
Call the rescue and emergency crews!

17:14.690 --> 17:16.070
Send out a fishing boat! Hurry!

17:16.070 --> 17:19.120
Watch out for reefs! Hold onto something!

17:19.430 --> 17:22.370
The tidal currents here are unique.

17:22.370 --> 17:32.050
<b>Huff huff</b>

17:22.720 --> 17:26.310
<i>The waves should be jostling us around more.</i>

17:26.310 --> 17:32.040
<i>I'm not drowning because Maggie-kun is
forcing the water away from my head.</i>

17:38.160 --> 17:41.760
If we ride this current, we can
hold onto the merfolk's rock.

17:46.890 --> 17:51.360
<b>Slap
Slap</b>

17:46.890 --> 17:51.360
<b>Slap</b>

17:46.890 --> 17:51.360
<b>Red Panda Punch!</b>

17:46.890 --> 17:51.360
<b>Red Panda Punch!</b>

17:47.950 --> 17:49.930
<i>The merfolk isn't sure what to do either.</i>

17:49.930 --> 17:51.360
<i>You can do it, Maggie-kun!</i>

17:51.950 --> 17:54.480
Yae-chan, get in touch with Nekozuku.

17:54.480 --> 17:57.830
All these unexpected turns
are making the merfolk mad.

17:57.830 --> 17:58.620
Okay.

17:58.620 --> 18:01.870
It's like a level 100
out-of-control fussy toddler.

18:02.090 --> 18:05.190
At this rate, it could cause major damage.

18:08.610 --> 18:10.330
Mori-kun, are you okay?

18:13.320 --> 18:16.360
<i>Oh, right. When we fell into the sea...</i>

18:16.360 --> 18:19.560
<i>How long will it take to be seen
by a doctor on this island?</i>

18:19.560 --> 18:21.090
<i>Surely not hours, right?</i>

18:27.120 --> 18:29.630
<i>If he keeps bleeding like that...</i>

18:29.630 --> 18:31.520
<i>Depending on how long, he could be in danger.</i>

18:34.550 --> 18:35.400
Mogura-san?

19:04.400 --> 19:07.490
Magi! Hold Mori-kun in place!

19:09.070 --> 19:11.560
Don't move a millimeter!

19:32.120 --> 19:35.150
<i>He poured some flame into
him by grazing his wound.</i>

19:38.810 --> 19:41.450
<i>If this were a manga or anime, I could've
said "Wow!" and forgotten about it.</i>

19:41.450 --> 19:44.890
<i>But I've never wondered this
more since meeting him...</i>

19:47.290 --> 19:50.640
<i>Mogura, who the hell are you actually?</i>

19:50.920 --> 19:53.080
<i>No, wait. He saved him.</i>

19:53.080 --> 19:54.400
<i>I shouldn't be afraid of him.</i>

19:55.160 --> 19:57.930
Hey! Retrieve the arrowhead!

19:57.930 --> 20:00.550
If any fish or birds swallow it,
it could hurt them!

20:00.550 --> 20:04.230
<i>It's odd that he can worry about that right now.</i>

20:08.030 --> 20:09.530
The island's...

20:09.530 --> 20:11.960
Our ancestors'...

20:12.220 --> 20:16.310
Mother's... sacred festival...

20:16.310 --> 20:17.960
That arrow...

20:18.280 --> 20:20.730
An islander fell into the sea.

20:20.730 --> 20:23.170
You should be heading down there first.

20:23.420 --> 20:26.320
Sir, you can't do this.

20:26.320 --> 20:29.470
I've been watching you
since you're so suspicious.

20:29.820 --> 20:34.000
Is that what Mama told you to do, sonny?

20:34.000 --> 20:36.620
Not only am I suspicious, I know everything.

20:36.620 --> 20:40.520
An Oedipus complex fogey, an evil
little girl, and a monstrous hag.

20:40.520 --> 20:44.480
I doubt it'll do any good, but let
me say the decent thing anyway.

20:44.480 --> 20:46.530
You call yourself a
company president, you fogey?

20:47.610 --> 20:49.280
Who are you?

20:49.550 --> 20:50.870
What did you do with that arrow?

20:50.870 --> 20:52.540
What is that lamp?

20:53.170 --> 20:55.220
Did you do something to the Moris' boy?

20:55.220 --> 20:57.430
Why is the other one uninjured?

20:57.430 --> 20:58.330
It doesn't make sense!

20:58.570 --> 21:01.340
You think pretty clearly for a puppet.

21:02.000 --> 21:03.670
You're wasting your potential.

21:03.670 --> 21:05.850
You've got a way with words,
and you're quick-witted.

21:05.850 --> 21:09.170
Careful with that. Is that
a knife for butchering fish?

21:09.170 --> 21:11.000
You don't have many openings.

21:11.000 --> 21:13.100
You practice a martial art, don't you?

21:13.100 --> 21:15.010
You must've been raised well.

21:15.010 --> 21:17.770
You even look pretty good for your age.

21:18.100 --> 21:21.270
You'd be a desirable man if you were weaned.

21:21.270 --> 21:25.780
Anyway, nobody wants to see a fight
between a middle-aged man and an old-timer.

21:26.070 --> 21:27.570
Let's not do this.

21:27.570 --> 21:31.210
On top of that, you've got that boss hag
and minefield girl behind you.

21:31.210 --> 21:35.210
If this were a manga or anime,
you wouldn't have any fans.

21:35.210 --> 21:38.670
You gotta at least have a young handsome boss.

21:39.120 --> 21:41.530
Don't insult my family!

21:41.530 --> 21:42.910
Your family, huh?

21:42.920 --> 21:44.420
<b>About This Shrine
 The merfolk of the island's merfolk legend is enshrined on the reef on the north side of Masago Bay.
With a head resembling an infant and the body of a woman, it lures men into the sea with its voice.
Originally a human girl, its life was filled with grief. When its child was taken by humans,
it became a malicious spirit, and its beautiful form transformed into an unsightly merfolk, causing rough seas, and the surrounding eight islands are said to have been destroyed in a single night.
 In the third year of the Keicho era, Koetsu the priest dedicated a child's mummy to Sakazukiyama Watatsumi Shrine (present day Samejima Shrine), sparing the island from disaster.
During the annual Spring festival, the islanders perform a ritual using arrows and flames to quell the malicious spirit and pray for safety on the sea. While feared as a source of calamity, the shrine has also been used for many years as a landmark for those returning to the mainland.</b>

21:44.420 --> 21:46.920
<b>With a head resembling an infant and the body of a woman, it lures men into the sea with its voice.</b>

21:44.650 --> 21:46.920
Isn't this what it said?

21:46.920 --> 21:49.770
Goo-goo ga-ga!

21:47.510 --> 21:49.390
"With a head resembling an infant

21:51.160 --> 21:52.840
and the body of a woman,

21:51.960 --> 21:53.570
Yes, yes!

21:55.150 --> 21:58.250
it lures men into the sea with its voice."

21:56.950 --> 21:59.650
<b>Shriek Shriek Shriek Shriek</b>

22:00.090 --> 22:02.530
The unsightly merfolk

22:02.530 --> 22:05.030
is your family!

23:35.070 --> 23:40.270
<b>Episode 11
"The Merfolk and the Bakeneko"</b>
